Zack sure could eat. Genesis was impressed by the amount of food that fit inside the young man. Swirling a finger in his drink, he was waiting patiently for his 'date' to finish. He had promised Angeal to take care of Zack, and that was what he was going to do.

”Could I have some more bread?” Zack asked with his mouth full.

Genesis blinked, bored, ”Ask the waiter.”

Zack pointed at Genesis' portion of untouched food, ”Can I have yours?”

”Sure, knock yourself out,” Genesis snickered, pushing his plate towards Zack.

Leaning back in his chair, Zack studied Genesis closely, ”So, Angeal asked you to keep me entertained 'till he comes back? Right?”

Genesis arched a brow and looked at Zack with a little sad smile, ”Who told you that?”

”Angeal,” Zack stated matter-of-factly.

”Oh,” Genesis downed his drink in one go, and sighed. ”True, I promised to be your wingman.”

”Excellent,” Zack leered.

Genesis did little to hide his surprise, he thought Zack hated him, just like Angeal. After all they were inseparable, so why should he have thought anything else?

”Come on! You know all the good bars in town!” Zack cheered, ”Angeal is never bothered with bars, and he hates it when I go with my friends.” Zack smiled widely, ”It's perfect!”

Genesis would have said something along with 'in your dreams kiddo', but he didn't, he had to remind himself that if he did this, and did it right, his debt would be paid for good, and there was nothing he wanted more than to no longer be in Angeal's debt.

(Help me! Genesis! Help!)

”Lets go then!” Zack said, already getting up from his seat.

Glaring into his empty glass, Genesis nodded, ”Lets leave.”

On their way to the third bar, Genesis noticed that Zack's cheeks was red from alcohol and dancing. He was actually pretty cute like that, funny that he never noticed that before.

”Did you and Angeal date or something?” Zack suddenly asked.

Genesis laughed out loud, feeling the liberating buzz of too many drinks soar through his body, ”Heavens, no.”

Zack stopped in a dead halt and stared up at Genesis, ”Then what is it?” When the red-haired man didn't answer, Zack continued, ”I'm not stupid you know, I have noticed that you guys don't exactly get along.”

”It's nothing,” Genesis said with a reassuring smile, ”Don't worry about it.”

”Did you fight over the same girl or something?” Zack asked innocently.

”That we did, when we were kids,” Genesis snickered, not even sure why the hell he was telling Zack that. ”We grew up together, Angeal and I. Guess we just annoy each other like brothers do.”

Zack clearly didn't really believe it, but let the matter rest for now.

”How come you don't have a lover?” Zack asked resting his chin in his hands, staring drunkenly up at Genesis. ”At least not one that anyone heard about.”

”Did your homework huh?.” Genesis said with a little smile. He couldn't very well tell the kid that his life wasn't exactly fit for a lover. ”There just ain't anyone that struck my fancy,” he said causally.

”Don't you ever miss it?” Zack asked bluntly, ”I mean, just to wake up next to someone, or to be kissed for no apparent reason? All the good stuff that comes with a lover.”

”Maybe,” Genesis said, squirming in his seat.

”When...” Zack said, stopping and smiled demurely.

”When, what?” Genesis asked, reaching for his drink, toasting with Zack even if he was not holding anything.

”When was the last time someone kissed you? I mean like 'really' kissed you?” Zack asked, laughing a little at his own question.

”Eh,” Genesis bit his lip, thinking, ”It was ages ago.”

Zack squinted his eyes to focus and reached for the half empty beer on the table. ”I happen to know that loads of the guys think you are sex on legs.” He laughed merrily, ”But they are scared shitless of you, maybe you should try and be more uhm... approachable?”

Genesis laughed, ”Those kids wouldn't know what to do with me if they had me.”

”Maybe,” Zack agreed, before taking a swing of the bottle. ”But still, more smiles, less serious ice queen.” He looked at Genesis over the top of his bottle, ”It might help.”

”Serious ice queen? Is that what you think I am?” Genesis asked amused, sipping his drink. ”I am actually a very loveable person, just ask my parents.”

Zack playfully lounged out over the top of Genesis, ”That doesn't count!”

”Sure it does,” Genesis shot back, pushing Zack so he almost fell off the seat.

After regaining his balance, Zack grabbed his bottle, dangling it to estimate if there was any more beer in it. ”You need a refill?” he asked.

Genesis nodded and handed his empty glass to Zack. Leaning back he watched as the young man made his way to the bar in the crowded room, he had to give it to Angeal, he did have impeccable taste, Zack was like a living tsunami, no breaks and full speed ahead. He vaguely wondered if the same hands that would scratch and slap him, would caress Zack softly.

”A gil for your thoughts,” Zack grinned, placing a full drink in front of Genesis.

Ignoring the question Genesis leaned forward again, taking his drink, ”So where do you want to go after this? Had your fill yet kid?”

”Eh, Genesis?” Zack asked scooting closer to the red-haired man, ”Do you think I could come try the Hologram training hall tomorrow?” He smiled disarming, ”With you of course.”

”I don't see why not,” Genesis said with a genuine smile. ”I would love to mop the floor with you.”

Zack laughed loudly, and then grew serious, turning his head looking Genesis directly into his eyes, ”I like you like this,” he whispered.

Genesis was at loss for words for a moment, those words sounded so wicked when whispered from Zack's perfect lips, ”I like you too, kid.”

-*-

On their way home, Genesis had to support Zack who wasn't all that good on standing by himself any more. ”So tell me Zack, how come you hooked up with someone like Angeal?”

”Are you crazy?” Zack slurred, ”He is my hero!”

'Some hero' Genesis thought to himself, but just hoisted up in Zack to get a better grip of the drunken youth. ”Yeah he's quite the impressive fella,” he admitted.

”Remember you promised... tomorrow,” Zack mumbled, his head starting to lull from side to side. Genesis let go in the last moment before Zack suddenly projectile vomited out on the curb.

Holding on to Zack so he wouldn't fall over, Genesis used his other hand to hold on Zack's forehead. And when Zack was dry heaving, Genesis, kissed the crown of his hair, ”Are you done?” he whispered, not realising what he had done till a second later.

”All better,” Zack coughed.

-*-

Genesis decided it was better if Zack slept in his room. He knew that people would think all kind of things, but he did have the defence that he had never been romantically involved with anyone here, so why should they think he started now? And with his childhood friends boyfriend? No, he was quite safe, and should Angeal comment on it, all he had to do was to tell the truth, that he had taken Zack to his room in case he should get more sick, just to make sure Zack would be okay.

Stripping off everything but his pants, Genesis crouched at the far end of the bed, undoing Zack's boots. There was nothing worse than to wake with your boots still on. Zack sighed blissfully in his sleep as the boots slid off. ”You're welcome kid,” Genesis mumbled to himself in the dark room.

For a long time he stood and stared at his queen sized bed wondering if he could lay down next to Zack, without Zack freaking out, 'cause after all it was not like they were friends, not for real, anyone could bond over alcohol. But, in the end, Genesis crawled up next to Zack clinging up against the cold wall, careful not to touch Zack.

-*-

Waking, Genesis could hear that the sounds around him were all wrong, and experience told him that when he woke for real, he would have one mother of a hangover, so he chose to snuggle deeper into his bed. It took him a minute to realise that someone had their arm around him. Had he let one of those stupid kids stay over? He couldn't remember, he didn't think so, 'cause his body didn't feel like he had had any shape or form of intercourse. The hand lay flat and warm on his stomach under the blanket, and Genesis' drunk hazed mind didn't mind one bit. He couldn't remember when he had snuggled last, mainly because he wasn't really a snugger, not because no one wanted to snuggle with him. But this morning, he felt like it, it was okay, and he didn't want to know who was beside him, it didn't matter, all that mattered was that the arm around him felt so damn nice.

Zack purred half asleep, when Genesis snuggled up against him, getting comfortable again.
