Raphael was searching the file cabinets with a rising panic, he couldn't find the damned journal, what id he had to return to Rosiel to tell him its not there, that it was not as well guarded by the ghouls as he had thought, that someone else had gotten to it first. Raphael let out a frustrated, frightened whimper. Hearing the low growling from the undead, Raphael looked over his back, tightening his grip on the gun. Just then he heard a blood curdling scream, and he nearly pulled the trigger. “Raziel!” he whispered to himself “God! No!” he looked at the archive cabinets, letting out a deep sigh as he stood up and stormed out of the room, the gun up and ready to shoot.

Coming down the corridor he saw one of the ghouls, who did not see him, as it had gouged its eyes out, or someone else had done that to him, Raphael didn’t know nor did he care, what he did care for was that this creature apparently had an intact sense of smelling as he heard it sniff him out, and as it suddenly snapped his had around looking directly at Raphael with his empty eyes, and let out a scream that would be heard through out the whole cellar. Raphael was shaken out of his trance and raised the gun to shoot the ghoul between its eyes. The instant the bullet penetrated its brain; the creature fell silent and slumped down as a puppetmaster cut its strings. “Hold on Raziel!” Raphael cried, running towards where he had left the kid, jumping over the apparently dead ghoul.

Taking out a ghoul more on his way he hurried to the other end of the dark corridor. He could hear the ghouls behind doors and walls but non attacked him, he wondered why, turning the corner to where he had left Raziel a terrible sight met him, Raziel was laying on the floor, and two ghouls was tearing large chunks off the young angel’s thigh and groin. Raziel looked dead to Raphael, and he raised his gun once more, shooing one of the ghouls in the back, this apparently only irritated the vile creature and it let go of its meal with a hiss, turning to Raphael. “you should not be alive” Raphael hissed as he recognized the ghoul as an angel he knew once, and who had been trialled by Sevothtarte, the Ghoul growled angrily and Raphael shoot this one right through its neck, almost tearing the head from the body. The ghoul fell to the floor and clawed its ruined neck, half hissing, and half gurgling.

The other Ghoul never let go of its meal, and only let out a grunt as Raphael walked over and kicked it in its head, from the sound of it he broke the undead creature’s jaw, pinning it to the floor with a booted foot, he didn’t even blink as he shot it right between its eyes.

Putting the gun back in his pocket, he gently picked up Raziel, cradling him close. But as the ghouls groans became louder he chose to pick up his gun once more as he tried to escape, almost falling out the door to the fresh air.

He looked down at Raziel; he was badly hurt, and needed attending right away. Sitting on the stairs up to the garden, Raphael searched for a pulse but found none, the kid was dead. A fine layer of cold sweat formed on his skin and his hands were clammy. What was he supposed to do now? Sitting there for moment thinking, he suddenly knew, “I’m sorry Raziel” he said softly, picking up the kid again carrying him back to the cellar, placing him amongst the dead ghouls.

He pointed the gun’s nuzzle towards his own shoulder, whimpering pitifully he ground his teeth and pulled the trigger, going momentarily deaf from the blast, falling to the floor from pain. He was completely covered in blood, it had soaked his clothes, both that of his own, and that of others. He blinked as he got up, clutching his shoulder. Leaning in he placed the gun next to Raziel’s corpse, before fleeing the cellar as fast as possible.
