AVARITIA
Raziel had seen Zaphekiel go, and set his face in a grim determined
mask. He would help his master, he would get to the bottom of this, and he was
not a helpless and did not need babying. Zaphekiel-sama would be proud of him!
He snuck back in to Zaphekiel’s office as he was sure the angel was
gone, and went directly to his desk, opening the top drawer he found a gun he
knew would be there. It seemed so heavy as he stood with it, heavy and deadly,
never had he wielded such a thing before, and he was not sure if he knew how
to. But it was better than nothing he decided, and stuck it in his pocket of
his jacket along with a handful of bullets he found in the back of the drawer.
He had wondered about this gun before, why would Zaphekiel-sama keep such a
monstrosity in his desk?
Raziel shut the drawer and hurried out of the office again. Swiftly
moving through the corridors to where he had seen Raphael. Knowing where the
elemental angel was heading, Raziel hurried across the garden and down the
stairs to the scary looking metal door, leading into the forsaken corridor
where the monsters lived. He didn’t know what had went on there, but he had
read in one of Zaphekiel-sama’s books that once this
was where fallen angels had been taken, they were supposed to perish after a
little time, first they would go insane, become mindless beasts with a taste
for other angels, to devour anything angelic, and then they would eventually
die, blood coming out from every opening in their body as their insides
exploded. But somehow some of these ghouls have survived, maybe they didn’t
need angels to feed upon, Raziel thought to himself, maybe they had fed on rats
and other vermin that was lured into the abandoned corridor.
Slowly pushing the door open, he stepped into the pitch darkness, the
smell in the abandoned cellar made him gag, it smelled of rot and madness, but
then he smelled something he had not noticed first. Blood, fresh blood! He knew
that smell! Sticking a hand in his
pocket having a firm hold on Zaphekiel’s gun he ventured further into the
darkness, trying to locate the origin of the blood.
He heard faint moaning echoing through the corridor, it was an eerie
hungry sound, it sounded like a soul in pain. But then he heard breathing,
quick breathing as someone about to scream. Turning around he followed the
sound, and found himself in a room, seeing a shape in
the corner huddled against the wall. “Raphael-sama?” he whispered as he
ventured closer.
Raphael looked up at the kid in front of him, and at first he thought it
was more of those vile things that had found him, but taking a second look he
could see the large trouble blue eyes, “Who are you kid?” he asked
“I am Raziel, Raphael-sama” Raziel said with a little smile “I work for
Zaphekiel-sama, and I have come to help you”
Raphael laughed bitterly, wiping his tears in his sleeve “Zaphekiel sent
you to help me?”
Raziel looked conflicted; until he finally shook his head “no, he did
not, sir. I came of my own free will”
The angel groaned, “go back child, you cannot help me, those things down
there are too aggressive, they will kill you”
“No sir!” Raziel said “I have this” he said with a grin and pulled the
gun from his pocket.
Raphael looked a little relieved, and Raziel beamed. “Give me that gun”
Raphael said reaching out for it, he noted the blood that dripped on the floor,
and made a mental note that he should have brought more bandage, the constant
flow of blood had soaked these.
Raziel handed the angel the gun, and then the bullets, “You’re hurt” he
stated.
“Nothing that can’t be mended” Raphael said softly, looking up at the
kid with a faint smile “I am the doctor right?”
Raziel nodded and stepped back as Raphael stood up.
Leaning heavily against the wall, Raphael reached out and ruffled
Raziel’s hair, “now go home” he said.
“No, I will stay and help you”
“Go home child, this is dangerous, and I am not sure I can protect you
from those ghouls” Raphael said, brushing past the kid.
But Raziel followed “if you do not let me stay, I will tell everyone
that you wept in the dark” he said. He was playing a dangerous game here, but
he really wanted to follow Raphael and lean more of why he was here, to gather
information. Zaphekiel-sama would be thrilled.
“If you must stay, stay here by the main door” he smiled to the little
blond kid “I will be back soon” and with that the angel walked out the room,
leaving Raziel alone in the dark.
