Slumping down in a chair Raziel kicked his legs watching his teacher
Zaphekiel pace the floor, he could tell he was deep in thought, but dared not
interrupt. “Are you sure?” the blind angel said, fixing his non seeing gaze on
his prodigy. “Are you absolutely sure that you saw Raphael?”
“Yes Zaphekiel-sama, I am sure” Raziel said for the hundredth time.
This just sent Zaphekiel off into an even fiercer pacing. This made no
sense, why would Raphael be on his way to the ancient and not to mention very
dangerous part of Etemenanki. “Very interesting, very, very interesting” he
mumbled. Something was going on, but he couldn't know what it was.
“He looked frightened, sir.” Raziel said with a small voice. Seeing the
mental image of Raphael haunted eyes and damp skin in front of him. “Deadly
afraid” he added with seriousness in his voice.
Zaphekiel nodded, “I understand that” he mumbled “was he armed?”
“Not that I know of” Raziel said softly “I didn’t see a gun”
“That fool!” Zaphekiel exclaimed. “Raziel” he said, turning in the
direction of Raziel’s voice. “You have the remains of this day off to do as you
please”
“What?” Raziel gasped, jumping from the chair “but Zaphekiel-sama, I can
help! Let me help! I can find Raphael-sama and follow him to see where he is
going.. I can… “Zaphekiel cut off the young cherub
with a gesture of his hand. “You will do no such thing” he roared. “You will
obey me and leave this to others”
Feeling tears rising Raziel nodded eagerly, he hated making Zaphekiel
angry with him, all he wanted to do was to prove his worth and make himself worthy
of Zaphekiel’s trust.
Hearing a sniffle, Zaphekiel’s expression mellowed and he held out a
hand feeling Raziel’s little hand in his he pulled the boy close to soothe him.
“I am not angry with you” he whispered “but it is important that I can trust
you on this, you cannot go off and think you can play detective, it its really
dangerous, you saw how frightened Raphael was, and he is a mighty angel”
Raziel nodded wrapping his
arms around Zaphekiel’s waist, savouring the closeness, Zaphekiel stoked his
hair soothingly.
Thinking that Raziel had understood his order, Zaphekiel made his way to
Rosiel’s rooms. The guards outside let him knock on the thick door, and when a
voice answered inside he walked in and stood still in the middle of the room,
hearing the heavy door slam shut behind him, and then he focused on other
sounds in the room, he heard splashing. “Lord Rosiel?” he called.
“Out here Zaphekiel” Rosiel called, ducking under the foam in his
bathtub again. Hearing Zaphekiel make his way to the bathroom, coming up for
air, Rosiel smiled at the blind angel. “There is a chair to your left” he said.
Zaphekiel sat down on the chair, inhaling the sweet scent in the room.
Recognizing it as Opium, he sat completely still with his hands in his lap, not
mentioning his discovery.
Rosiel sighed happily in his bath. “Let me guess why you are here, can
it have something to do with the dear doctor?”
“Yes my lord” Zaphekiel said “Raziel said he had seen him on his way to
the abandoned corridor.” He said softly, trying to be diplomatic.
Rosiel chuckled and reached for the tube to his hookah. He inhaled
deeply and exhaled until he had no more breath, “I sent him there, is that what
you came here to know?” Zaphekiel stayed still, never revealing his true
intentions. “You are so predictable Zaphekiel” Rosiel sighed, splashing in the
water with a long slender leg. Pointing at Zaphekiel’s chest with a slim foot
spilling foam and water on the blind angel’s clothes. “Don’t forget what you
are” he whispered, pushing Zaphekiel’s chest where his brand was burned into
his skin, now securely hidden under his clothes. “You used to be a hunter, and
I am sure it’s like riding a bike, my friend” Rosiel smiled seeing Zaphekiel
frown “Cherub Katan is hungry, and I want you to show me your undying loyalty
finding him suitable subjects for dinner” the prince of heavens laughed
crudely.
Zaphekiel head Rosiel inhale more smoke, he is mad; the drug must have
driven him completely insane, he thought to himself. With a little luck Rosiel
would fall asleep in the water and drown, Zaphekiel thought. “I shall hunt them
down and bring them back” he said flatly.
“Splendid” Rosiel chirped “promise them food, shelter, salvation.. Whatever your lying heart might please, but make sure
they are alive when you take them to the catacomb.”
“Yes my lord” Zaphekiel said, and stood up, feeling Rosiel’s foot slide
off him as he rose. “I shall be back swiftly”
“come see me when you return”
Rosiel said to Zaphekiel’s back, seeing the blind angels shoulder rise and fall
he could tell he was not one bit happy about this! Closing his eyes Rosiel
rested his neck against the edge of the tub feeling wonderfully numb.
